"One person with a belief is equal to a force of ninety-nine who have only interests."
- John Stuart Mill

We believe Free Speech is for everyone.

This was the driving reason why we founded NearlyFreeSpeech.NET at a time when "big content" threatened to suffocate the voice of the individual and turn the web into a one-way medium: television with resize bars.

For everyone to have free speech, they need to be able to afford it. They need to be able to really afford it, which means affording it on their own, without depending on government subsidies or corporate sponsorship. And they can, because this stuff just isn't that expensive.

For everyone to have free speech, they need to be able to use it. Really use it. That means saying what they wish to say without fear of interference, reprisal, or censorship.

NearlyFreeSpeech.NET makes web hosting affordable and usable for everyone.

We believe the Internet is our home.

Not literally, of course. We do spend some time in the "real world." But the Internet is where we work, and often where we play.

There are many things we could do that would make us more money in the short term, even though they would hurt the Internet we love in the long term. We choose not to do those things.

NearlyFreeSpeech.NET does not do things that hurt the Internet at large.

We believe we are not like everyone else.

The most obvious example of this is our pricing model, which ties our success inextricably to that of our customers. We want to share in our members' success, whereas traditional "monthly fee" plans actually encourage a hosting company to oversell its capacity.

But there's more. When we started NearlyFreeSpeech.NET, we had features and technology nobody else had. That made it possible for us to offer the combination of to-the-penny pricing and high service quality we do, which was very exciting. But at the same time, we started without many features that everyone else did have, and that made it tough going.

We've come a long way in that area. We still have some things to take care of, and yes, some bugs to fix, but there are very few sites our service can't handle. And through it all, we've kept what makes us unique.

NearlyFreeSpeech.NET does not follow the herd.

We believe the fun is just beginning.

We made two lists. On the first, we put all the things we would have to do to make us exactly like the rest of the big hosting companies: the safe, time-tested, proven profitable ideas. On the second list, we put all the new ideas, all the bold ideas, all the things that nobody else has done before, all the ways to do things better, and all the great ideas that are supposed to be impossible.

Then we threw the first list away.

You see, every time we give our members a new feature, they find incredible ways to use it that we never imagined. That is too exciting to pass up, so we are focusing on bringing our members some of the really outlandish ideas we've dreamed up. Ideas like, "I bet we could sell web hosting by the penny," which, after all, got us here in the first place.

NearlyFreeSpeech.NET is just getting warmed up.

We believe you aren't like everyone else either.

At this point, it seems like a safe bet, because the statistics say that "ordinary" people won't scroll down this far.

If we're right... if you are creative, if you are innovative, if you have great ideas, or if you believe like we do, we want you to host with us.

NearlyFreeSpeech.NET wants you!

(If you want, you can dig back to 2002.)
